We live in a world that often tells us to “believe in yourself” and “trust your instincts.” While self belief has it’s place, for those who follow God, our truest confidence doesn’t come from our own strength—it comes from Him.
What is Self-Confidence in God?
Self-Confidence in God isn’t about thinking, I can handle anything because I’m strong. It’s about knowing I can face anything because God is with me. It’s a deep trust that His wisdom, power, and love will carry us through every challenge.
When David faced Goliath, his confidence wasn’t in his slingshot skills alone —it was in the Lord who had delivered him before and would deliver him again. (1 Samuel 17:37).
Why We Struggle with Confidence
Life can chip away at out boldness. Failure, rejection, or the weight of expectations can make us feel small. Sometimes, we look at our weaknesses and wonder if God could really work through us. But here’s the truth: God often chooses the humble and the weak so His power can shine even brighter (2 Corinthians 12: 9-10).
Building Confidence in God
Know His Word - The Bible is filled with reminders that we are not alone. The more we meditate on Scripture, the more we anchor ourselves in His promises.
Remember His Faithfulness - Keep a journal of times when God has answered prayers or shown up in unexpected ways. Looking back will remind you that He hasn’t failed you yet.
Pray Boldly - Confidence in God grows when we speak to Him honestly, bringing our fears and dreams before Him and listening for His guidance.
Take Small Steps of Faith - Confidence isnt built overnight. Like Peter stepping out of the boat, sometimes it’s about taking that first step toward what God is calling you to do, even if the water looks deep.
Living It Out Daily
Self-Confidence in God transforms how we face life. It means walking into a jog interview knowing that your worth isn’t defined by the outcome. It means speaking up for truth even when it’s unpopular. It means resting at night without fear of tomorrow, because you know the One who holds it.
The world’s confidence says, I’ve got this. God’s confidence says, God’s got me.
So, the next time doubt whispers in your ear, answer with faith “ The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid “ ( Hebrews 13:6).
